Last year, for my 50th birthday, I completed a triathlon. Not to be outdone, I have decided to ride the Triple Bypass bicycle ride, sponsored by Team Evergreen (www.TeamEvergreen.org). This ride is 120 miles long, has 20,000 feet of elevation gain, and traverses three mountain passes.
The ride is on July 10, 2010. Since I can't leave normal alone, I have been toying with the idea of riding the course in reverse the day before the official ride, and then riding the course back on the official ride day. Yean, that would be 240 miles in two days, with 40K feet of elevation gain.
In order for me to be in shape for the ride, my goal is to alter my eating habits (somewhat), and drop my weight down to 150-152 pounds (from the current 167 lbs). And do a lot of riding.
My winter training will mainly consist of twice-a-day riding my old HealthRider, and riding the rollers (one of these days I'll post pictures or videos of both). Rollers are to bicycles what treadmills are to joggers and runners. Rollers differ from wind trainers in that both wheels are actually rolling. Rollers offer important training benefits such as balance, spin speed, and variable resistance.
I will try to post (at least) weekly updates on my training (and weight) progress.
